Another practice on collage. There are not many technique skill which are used in this collage, but it is still effective somehow and my main purpose as well as the focus are also recognizable.

These two collages used the same images, and have similiar process. But I prefer the second one, because it is more focused.

The main technique skill which is used is layer setting (luminosity, darken, hard light)

Collage

The art work has been created in Photoshop CS3.

The main technique: dropping, opacity and layers setting.

Althought I love the flow of flower in the second collage and the decreasing of the opacity, I still prefer the first one. Its simple has made the flower become more focused.

The Unity

As we have studied in class about the Unity so far, here is another Multipages layout which has a great connection together. The unity is recognized by the same title font, body text font and the flow of brushes in the right hand. Even thought the pages have different colors, each page has one colour which is represented in 2 levels of brightness.

At first, I has tried with Multu, KissMe and TheKingAndTheQueen fonts for the title because they look as to wind about as the flow of brushes, but then I think it's too busy, decrease the stand out of the brushes and don't make the title recognizable. So I come up with a harder, stronger font.

The layouts are made in Photoshop. The main techniques that are used are bruhes and opacity.

The 3 matters

Matters, there are a lot. But the matters that I can candle, or somehow, help a little bit without any commercial purpose in the position of a designer probably are:

1. Cultural values: When discussing about this term, I completely don’t mention about superstitious or something like “children have to do what their parents say”, “can not discuss about sex or having sex before marriage” or “women have to stay at home” as Vietnamese people used to do and think. Cultural values, as its mean of “culture”- which is from the past and “value”- the thing that is valuable, help people living better and being proud of, are traditional clothes, art works, songs, history and bright Vietnamese personality such as brave, helpful and friendly….

2. Teenagers: There are three main terms I would like to concern about on this matter: education (which is not only knowledge but also life-style, humanity…) and psychology/ mental process. The way Vietnamese adult looking at and educating their young children should be changed to be able to catch up with the fast growth of the country as well as the children’s minds and the globalization.

3. Anime, cartoon, movie: Mentioning these 3 issues, people immediately think of entertainment and commercial purpose. In fact, it’s what happening in Vietnam, and it becomes the matter, at least my matter! Anime and cartoon industry doesn’t really exist in Vietnam. Movie industry is lightly starting up, but in a very commercial way and doesn’t gain any peak or doesn’t really success. When saying I will put effort on them, I didn’t think of money for ahead (but in case, there is a success, I may gain some for my further purposes). What I care is helping starting a valuable industry that has forgotten or never appeared in Vietnam for long…

These 3 matters, if I may call, are all connected together. It sounds like a big due to be able to involve in all those matters, but actually while I’m supporting this one, I’m getting into the others. In explain, while working volunteering for the third matter, I’m involving to the other 2 matters.

Why?

The movies, anime or cartoons I make would not be commercial purpose that has no meaning at all (even though the commercial issue is not completely forgotten). It should be involve to social issues such as teenagers’ mental process, globalization or culture values… And there is no way to express an idea to people’s minds, especially teenagers as fast as movies, cartoon or anime. To tell the truth, I know culture and history of Korea and Japan better than of Vietnam. They did a very good job in popularize their values! By popularize them, they are keeping these values from disappearing from the globalization.

Follow them, learn them!

Butterfly

After getting the point how well the elements in a design/ layout can guide people’s eyes and focus, I come up with an idea of creating a layout that is not only attractive but also giving leaders the influence of reading from pages to pages. A multipage layout!




As the layouts above, each of them is a separate layout without power, but when we put them next to each other on the magazine, we would recognize a flow from pages to pages, from left to right and they all combine a interesting picture: the flow of butterflies!

There is another series which has the same purpose and the same inspiration of butterflies…

These two series of layout have both differences and unities.

Differences:

1st: In the first layout, the flow begins with a lot of butterflies coming from far away, then get closer until the last page. The only big butterfly in the last page seems to be full stop for the whole story. Wide opening story with a sudden strong big end! On the other hand, the second layout starts with a lot of big butterflies, then the flow goes farther which brings a wide open without any real ending. The story may be stopped here, but the flow of imagination is still flying away with the flow of butterflies…

2nd: While there are 2 equal columns in the first layout, the columns in second layout are not that equal which causes more unbalanced comparing to the first one.

Unities:

1st: The flow of butterflies is the main inspiration and the layouts of 3 pages make a completed flow.

2nd: Each page of each series of layout has its own bright color.
After designing the background in Photoshop (main technique: Photoshop brush and decreasing Opacity), I used InDesign to arrange the titles and columns of words.

Color, Opacity and Text

I love colorful images, so I tried to design some layouts that contain as many colors as possible. As a result, there is a layout that can't even put text on it because it's too difficult to read (the second one). The main problem of too many colors is that they look childish. So, it probably can only be used for kid's magazines. >_<

Colouring

Being a designer, I should be able to use the power of color to influent the mood of the audiences. Unfortunately, I am also affected when playing around with my own design. Just changing color a little bit, it gives you a whole new fresh emotion. It turns to be I cannot choose which one to be the best to display on the blog either…

There are two elements that should be noticed: the text and the girl which is in color. It seems like the rest is just a very old memory that has been built deep inside the young girl…

It seems like the text has given colors to the space around it including the girl. However, she does not stand out as much as other layouts.

Sadness. That’s all could be talked about this. And, she seems to be lonely than ever…

Huhm… Simple, but the text is focused and stand out from the background. It’s quite childish to keep the original color of the background.

There are just my personal opinion of my own work. Each viewers would have there own points of view and be affected by the color in a different way. Just share...

Event club's flyer

This flyer is designed for Club day next Wednesday. The most difficulty of designing a flyer is that the baclground must be white and shouldn't have a lot of colour in it, because it will be printed in black and white.

Family

The sun, earth and moon? Yes. A happy family with the son in his mother arm? Truth.

We can regard the earth as the child of mother moon and father son because the lives in the earth are directly affected by the sun and the moon. The sun gives lives and light while the moon influences the rise and fall of sea level...
